Looks like oatmeal can have some more applause for its health benefits. According to a new study from out of Iceland, women who ate oatmeal at least 5 times a week during midlife were 60% less likely to get breast cancer later in life. Oatmeal has a very high fiber count but also high levels of beta-glucan both of which contain immune boosting compounds. Another beneficial compound in oats is Avenathramdides. Potent antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer compounds that helped to kill off up to 50% of breast cancer cells in recent lab studies. You can't go wrong with fiber, beta-glucan and avenathramdides whether you're preventing cancer or just improving your health. Oatmeal is an affordable meal and quite a versatile one. Look for organic oats due to the amount of glyphosate used on conventional crops.
